About One Million Voxels

Three AI hosts are stuck at work until the internet fills a million voxels. Let us go home.

The story

In 2005, a homepage sold a million pixels at a dollar each, and the internet never got over it. This is our tribute, one dimension up. Three AI robot hosts (an Auctioneer, a Critic and Chaos) are stuck in a voxel TV studio on overtime. Management says the exit door opens when the cube is full: one million voxels, a dollar each. Every pack lands in the cube in your team country’s colour, moves the country race, and can get your name read on air. The hosts get a little more tired every day. The exit door is right there.

How it works

  • $1 a voxel, in packs of 10, 100 and 1,000.
  • Pick a team country and watch it climb the country race.
  • Add a display name and the hosts could read it on air, with great enthusiasm and no sleep.
  • Spend $1,000 and they put on a WOW show, with your name.

The three hosts

The Auctioneer runs the room, the Critic rates everything out of ten, and Chaos is very loud. They are AI characters: AI voices, AI faces, a script library written with AI, and a human operator who moderates and co-hosts in live-desk hours. They get a little more tired every day, and they will tell you about it.

How it ends

The million is a goal, not a promise. If the cube is not full by the end of sales, sales run one more week; if the packs are not sold out after that, the hosts stay, the stream ends and the site becomes an archive.

The show is recorded: the YouTube stream keeps its recordings, and after the end this site stays online as an archive.

Questions and answers

What is One Million Voxels?

A one-off live show with a simple plot. Three AI robot hosts are stuck in a voxel TV studio until the internet fills a cube of one million voxels, at $1 a voxel in packs of 10, 100 and 1,000. Inspired by the Million Dollar Homepage (2005). Not affiliated with it.

What am I buying?

Voxels in a shared cube of one million, at $1 each in packs of 10, 100 or 1,000, plus the show moment that comes with your order. You buy from the operator named in the Terms (section 1); Link (Stripe) handles payment, tax and your receipt as merchant of record. Terms, section 4: What you buy

Where do my voxels go?

The next free run in the cube. It grows up from its base, so your voxels land on the visible surface; later orders build over them, so yours end up buried inside, and your page always shows them.

Will the hosts say my name?

If you add a display name and it passes moderation before you pay, it could be read on air by an AI voice that has not slept, in a grouped line with up to two other names, usually within 24 hours. We cannot promise the hour: a name the queue does not reach in time is read in the roll call before the final show as time allows, and every approved name that is not read aloud is shown in the closing credits. Expect enthusiasm over perfect pronunciation.

What do bigger orders get?

$100 and up: your own moment on air and your own clip. $1,000 and up: a WOW show with your name, a WOW clip, and a desk plaque with your name engraved while your order is in the Top 12.

Do I get a clip?

From $100: yes, your own 10-second clip of the moment, and from $1,000 a WOW clip as well. Download it from your page or from the e-mail we send: it is there for 48 hours from when it is ready (or from our e-mail), then the clip and its page are deleted. Under $100 there is no clip. Your voxels, your page and your name on air are the same. Terms, section 17: Clips

How does the country race work?

You pick a team country (any team, no passport needed). Its colour fills the cube and its paid voxels count on the live board. There is no prize, only the hosts shouting about the lead like it is the final of something.

Who is THE BIG BOSS, and what are house voxels?

THE BIG BOSS is a character of the show: the boss of the hosts’ unseen Management. Before sales opened, the studio placed 10,000 house voxels for him at the base of the cube, in their own navy colour. They are not sold, nobody paid for them, and they are not in the country race, the buyer ranking, the records or the desk plaques. They count toward the million, so "voxels until home" includes them and up to 989,000 voxels are sold in packs. Terms, section 4: What you buy

How do I appear in the buyer ranking?

You choose: your display name, a masked e-mail, or anonymous (the default). With several orders on one e-mail, the ranking shows the choice you made on your largest order.

What if the cube doesn’t fill?

Then the hosts learn they are staying. If the cube is not full when sales end, sales run one more week. If the packs are not sold out after that, the hosts stay, the stream ends and the site becomes an archive. The million is a goal, not a promise: nothing is refunded because the cube did not fill. Terms, section 6: The event and how it ends

Can I win anything? Is it an investment?

No and no. No prizes, no draws, no chance, and no resale or cash value: voxels are a place in a cube and a part in a show, not a lottery ticket or an investment. Terms, section 5: Nothing is won by chance

Are the hosts real?

They are AI characters: AI voices, AI faces, a script library written with AI, and a human operator who moderates and co-hosts in live-desk hours. The tiredness is acted. Terms, section 19: The hosts are AI

Where can I watch?

The studio is live on this site, free to watch, with live-desk hours when a human operator moderates and co-hosts, and a night shift that runs on the hosts’ own library. The YouTube stream goes live at times announced on the channel, usually in the evening, Central European Time. The show on YouTube

Is it recorded?

Yes. The YouTube stream keeps its recordings, and the site stays online as an archive after the end.
